  Cross-border Glienicker bridge , Potsdam.

While the Glienicke Bridge served as a border crossing in the first years of the GDR, it was closed to private traffic as early as 1952 - until the construction of the Berlin Wall, from where it became impassable. The green steel truss construction above the Havel has also become known internationally as the scene of the Cold War. The US and the Soviet Union exchanged spies over the bridge. Stuff enough for thrillers like "Bridge of Spies" by Steven Spielberg , for whose filming - including Tom Hanks - at the original venue the bridge was closed for sever
