Officially opened in September 2016, Hiroshima Orizuru Tower is located beside the A-Bomb Dome in Hiroshima. The 50 meter tall tower is one of the few tall buildings around the Peace Memorial Park and offers a great view of the surroundings, including the less commonly seen view of the A-Bomb Dome from above.

The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki cities in August 1945 brought an end to the Second World War, but at a terrible cost to the Japanese civilian population unheard in the history of mankind.

For the first time received postcard from a Postcrosser who has sent/received more than 20000 postcards.

Shirakami-Sanchi World Heritage Property is a wilderness area covering one third of Shirakami mountain range with the largest remaining virgin beech forest in East Asia.Situated in the mountains of northern Honshu, this trackless site includes the last virgin remains of the cool-temperate forest of Siebold's beech trees that once covered the hills and mountain slopes of northern Japan. The black bear, the serow and 87 species of birds can be found in this forest.

# 674 Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu,Japan.

Five hundred years of Ryukyuan history (12th-17th century) are represented by this group of sites and monuments. The ruins of the castles, on imposing elevated sites, are evidence for the social structure over much of that period, while the sacred sites provide mute testimony to the rare survival of an ancient form of religion into the modern age. The wide- ranging economic and cultural contacts of the Ryukyu Islands over that period gave rise to a unique culture.
Shuri Castle Okinawa-For 450 years from 1429, it was the royal court and administrative center of the Ryukyu Kingdom. It was the focal point of foreign trade, as well as the political, economic, and cultural heart of the Ryukyu Islands.

The Shrines and Temples of Nikko form a single complex composed of one hundred three religious buildings within two Shinto shrines and one Buddhist temple  located in an outstanding natural setting.
The first buildings were constructed on the slopes of the sacred Nikko mountains by a Buddhist monk in the 8th century. They have for centuries been a sacred site known for its architectural and decorative masterpieces. They are closely associated with the history of the Tokugawa Shoguns.

Located in the interior of Yaku Island, at the meeting-point of the palaearctic and oriental biotic regions, Yakushima exhibits a rich flora, with some 1,900 species and subspecies, including ancient specimens of the sugi (Japanese cedar). It also contains a remnant of a warm-temperate ancient forest that is unique in this region.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome),Japan.

he Hiroshima Peace Memorial,originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, and now commonly called the Atomic Bomb Dome or A-Bomb Dome is part of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The ruin of the hall serves as a memorial to the people who were killed in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. Over 70,000 people were killed instantly, and another 70,000 suffered fatal injuries from the radiation.The Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome) has been preserved as a ruin. It is all that remains of the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotional Hall  after the 1945 nuclear bomb blast. Inside the property, all the structural elements of the building remain in the same state as immediately after the bombing, and are well preserved. The property can be observed from the outside of the periphery fences and its external and internal integrity is well maintained. The buffer zone, including Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, is defined both as a place for prayer for the atomic bomb victims as well as for permanent world peace.The Children's Peace Monument on the postcard is in the Atomic Bomb Dome Park, Hiroshima.

Even today, folded paper cranes arrive from all over the world for placing under The statue of the young girl holding up a crane as a prayer for peace.

Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama,Japan.

 Located in a mountainous region that was cut off from the rest of the world for a long period of time, these villages with their Gassho-style houses subsisted on the cultivation of mulberry trees and the rearing of silkworms. The large houses with their steeply pitched thatched roofs are the only examples of their kind in Japan. Despite economic upheavals, the villages of Ogimachi, Ainokura and Suganuma are outstanding examples of a traditional way of life perfectly adapted to the environment and people's social and economic circumstances.

About Wada-ke House

The only nationally-designated important cultural property in Shirakawa-go, it is a thatched-roof ridgepole Gassho style house, the largest of its kind.

It has gardens and hedges that preserve its atmosphere, surrounding fields and waterways. 

In addition to the main house, the storehouse and toilet are also designated as important property. 

The main house first floor and attic boasts a size of 110 square meters. 

The massive beams on the first floor are called "cattle trees", and they hold the ceiling up high and create a large space. 

The doors "glow" black due to wiping of the soot from the hearth every day which gives them a black shine, as if it were coated in lacquer.

Buddhist Monuments in the Horyu-ji Area,Japan.

here are around 48 Buddhist monuments in the Horyu-ji area, in Nara Prefecture. Several date from the late 7th or early 8th century, making them some of the oldest surviving wooden buildings in the world. These masterpieces of wooden architecture are important not only for the history of art, since they illustrate the adaptation of Chinese Buddhist architecture and layout to Japanese culture, but also for the history of religion, since their construction coincided with the introduction of Buddhism to Japan from China by way of the Korean peninsula.

Sites of Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining,Japan.

The site encompasses a series of twenty three component parts, mainly located in the southwest of Japan. It bears testimony to the rapid industrialization of the country from the middle of the 19th century to the early 20th century, through the development of the iron and steel industry, shipbuilding and coal mining. The site illustrates the process by which feudal Japan sought technology transfer from Europe and America from the middle of the 19th century and how this technology was adapted to the country’s needs and social traditions. The site testifies to what is considered to be the first successful transfer of Western industrialization to a non-Western nation.

As per Japanese postal regulation, it is actually not legal to send shaped cards internationally without an envelope.

Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range,Japan.

Set in the dense forests of the Kii Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean, three sacred sites – Yoshino and Omine, Kumano Sanzan, Koyasan – linked by pilgrimage routes to the ancient capital cities of Nara and Kyoto, reflect the fusion of Shinto, rooted in the ancient tradition of nature worship in Japan, and Buddhism, which was introduced from China and the Korean Peninsula. The sites (495.3 ha) and their surrounding forest landscape reflect a persistent and extraordinarily well-documented tradition of sacred mountains over 1,200 years. Himeji-jo,Japan.

Himeji-jo is the finest surviving example of early 17th-century Japanese castle architecture, comprising 83 buildings with highly developed systems of defence and ingenious protection devices dating from the beginning of the Shogun period. It is a masterpiece of construction in wood, combining function with aesthetic appeal, both in its elegant appearance unified by the white plastered earthen walls and in the subtlety of the relationships between the building masses and the multiple roof layers.
