Postcard from India.



Special card brought out on the occasion of Postcrossing Musical Meetup on 11th June 2017 in Bangalore.

Statue of Liberty,USA.


It was made in Paris by the French sculptor Bartholdi, in collaboration with Gustav Eiffel (who was responsible for the steel framework), this towering monument to liberty was a gift from France on the centenary of American independence.It was then disassembled in Paris and packed in 214 wooden crates for shipment to the United States.
Height of copper statue (to torch): 151 feet 1 inch (46 meters)
From ground level to torch: 305 feet 1 inch (93 meters)
Inaugurated in 1886, the  sculpture stands at the entrance to New York Harbour and has welcomed millions of immigrants to the United States ever since.Thank you Elena for this majestic Statue Of Liberty card.Also thank you for the beautiful stamps.

Archaeological Sites of Mycenae and Tiryns,Greece


The archaeological sites of Mycenae and Tiryns are the imposing ruins of the two greatest cities of the Mycenaean civilization, which dominated the eastern Mediterranean world from the 15th to the 12th century B.C. It played a vital role in the development of classical Greek culture. Also,these two cities are directly linked to the Homeric epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey , which have influenced European art and literature for more than three millennia.

Postcard from Algeria.


Officially, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, is a sovereign state in North Africa on the Mediterranean coast. Its capital and most populous city is Algiers, located in the country's far north. With an area of 2,381,741 square kilometres (919,595 sq mi), Algeria is the tenth-largest country in the world, and the largest in Africa. Algeria is bordered to the northeast by Tunisia, to the east by Libya, to the west by Morocco, to the southwest by the Western Saharan territory, Mauritania, and Mali, to the southeast by Niger, and to the north by the Mediterranean Sea. The country is a semi-presidential republic consisting of 48 provinces and 1,541 communes (counties). Abdelaziz Bouteflika has been President since 1999.  
Algeria is a regional and middle power. This North African country supplies large amounts of natural gas to Europe, and energy exports are the backbone of the economy.

Fort and Shalamar Gardens in Lahore,Pakistan



The  Lahore Fort situated in the north-west corner of the Walled City of Lahore, comprise an outstanding example of Mughal architecture from the reign of Akbar (1542-1605), characterized by standardized masonry of baked brick and red sandstone courses relieved by Hindu motifs including corbels, through that of Shah Jahan (1627-58), characterized by the use of luxurious marbles, inlays of precious materials and mosaics, set within exuberant decorative motifs of Persian origins.

The Shalimar Gardens, constructed by Shah Jahan in 1641 is a Mughal garden, layering Persian influences over Mughal artistic expression. The Mughal garden is characterized by enclosing walls, strait  layout of paths and features, and large expanses of flowing water. The Shalimar Gardens cover 16 hectares and is arranged in three terraces descending from the south to the north.

Archaeological Ruins at Moenjodaro,Pakistan.



The Archaeological Ruins at Mohenjodaro are the best preserved urban settlement in South Asia dating back to the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC, The property represents the metropolis of Indus civilization, which flourished between 2,500-1,500 BC in the Indus valley and is one of the world’s three great ancient civilizations.
Mohenjodaro, discovered in 1922  comprises two parts : a citadel area in the west where the Buddhist stupa was constructed with unbaked brick over the ruins of Mohenjodaro in the 2nd century AD, and to the east, the lower city ruins spread out along the banks of the Indus. Here buildings are laid out along streets intersecting each other at right angles, in a highly orderly form of city planning that also incorporated systems of sanitation and drainage.

Garajonay National Park,Spain.



Not far off the north-west coast of Africa lies the island of La Gomera, one of the seven islands that make up the Canary Islands archipelago in the Atlantic. These high, volcanic islands are the first to receive the rains arriving from the west, and have thus retained the remnants of a rich and luxuriant forest — the laurisilva or Laurel forest — on their windward peaks, which covers 70 % of this park..
