Bamberg is located in southern Germany in the north of Bavaria. It is a good example of a central European town with a basically early medieval plan and many surviving ecclesiastical and secular buildings of the medieval period. In the late 18th century it was the centre of the Enlightenment in     southern Germany, with eminent philosophers and writers such as Hegel and Hoffmann living there.

2015 International Year of Light-Issue Date: 02.03.2015

Sunlight is an essential life requirement for humans, animals and plants. Light in general is also a key issue in science and culture. The United Nations has declared 2015 the International Year of Light: 1000 years ago, it was first proved that light sources emit radiation, exactly 200 years ago, the natural wave of light was discovered and the quantum theory of light 110 years ago. Experimenting with light has awoken curiosity for science. The special stamp "play of light"  allows the viewer to perform three experiments with respect to the mentioned anniversaries. Thanks to the fluorescent colour of the background the stamp glows in the dark. It is a light source, if it has been irradiated by the sun. The wave theory can be observed by holding the stamp in front of a light source. The micro-perforations in the paper are clearly visible in the light waves that are diffracted by the small openings. For the experiment, the quantum theory of pink curve was printed in the background of the globe with a special colour. Upon irradiation with UV light, the colour changes from pink to violet.

Paphos,Cyprus.

This heritage site is  situated in the District of Paphos in western Cyprus. It  is a serial archaeological property consisting of three components at two sites: the town of Kato Paphos (Site I), and the village of Kouklia (Site II). Kato Paphos includes the remains of ancient Nea Paphos (Aphrodite’s Sacred City) and of the Kato Paphos necropolis known as Tafoi ton Vasileon (“Tombs of the Kings”), further to the north. The village of Kouklia includes the remains of the Temple of Aphrodite (Aphrodite’s Sanctuary) and Palaepaphos (Old Paphos). Because of their great antiquity, and because they are closely and directly related to the cult and legend of Aphrodite (Venus), who under the influence of Homeric poetry became the ideal of beauty and love, inspiring writers, poets, and artists throughout human history, these two sites can indeed be considered to be of outstanding universal value.
Thank you Merja for the 2 beautiful cards representing this site and nice stamps.

The Gates of Imam AL Khdumain Shrine Baghdad,Iraq.

The city of Al-Kadhimiya was considered an important center for knowledge and religious  awareness for a long  time, and many of Shia Islam and Sunni Islam’s prominent scholars were from this city.
During the Buyid dynasty, who are considered to be Shia Muslims, they ordered the establishment of Al-Kadhimiya mosque and shrine, over the tombs of Imam Al-Kadhim and Imam Al-Jawad.
In the present time, the city of Al-Kadhimiya is considered one of the holiest places for Shia Muslims.. The shrine of these two Imams is considered the biggest shrine of Shia Imams in Iraq, and  Shia Muslims from all over the world travel to this place to pray to God and ask these two Imams to intercede on their behalf to solve their problems and fulfill their wishes. Therefore, one of the titles of these two Imams according to Shia traditions is: Gate of wishes or requisites.
