Fado "destiny, fate" is a music genre which can be traced to the 1820s in Portugal, In 2011, Fado was inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.
Goa has an eclectic culture, expressed in the local language Konkani. There are many kinds of folk music in the state  The 400 years of Portuguese rule, which ended with independence in 1961, has also left its mark not only on the architecture and cuisine of Goa but also on the music.
Sonia is now rated as the best Fadista (fado singer) in India of all time. She has been singing Fado professionally for the last seven years and has performed in India and abroad.
She has performed with the greats of Fado such as Fadista Katia Guerreiro, Maria Ana Bobone, Raquel Tavares, Rao Kyao, Carlos do Carmo, Argentina Santos, Miguel Capucho, Ricardo Rocha and Mestro Antonio Chainho.
